Servometer Visitor at Photonics West Takes Booth Staffers by Surprise

(Cedar Grove, NJ, February, 2014)  – While at the Photonics West show in San Francisco last week a notable visitor stopped by to say, “hello” to our Servometer booth staff.  The show is a premiere event for laser and optics industry professionals researching the latest developments in technology and science. Among the many visitors to the Servometer booth was James Kelly, Senior Scientist, Applied Physics Group, National Security Doctorate, PNNL. What makes him extra special is his personal connection to Servometer.  Unbeknownst to the Servometer staff, Mr. Kelly is the grandson of Fredrick Kelly, one of the original founders of Servometer.

From the Kelly garage, Frederick and Morris Holowachuk developed a sophisticated electroplating process for the production of bellows. The two partners patented the technology selling to customers like NASA, and the U.S. Air Force.  But the story doesn’t end there.  It’s a small world and apparently the science and engineering world is an even smaller community.  Mr. Frederick Kelly was a scientist, as well as an inventor, and according to his grandson, worked as a team leader inventing new electro-chemical systems and various electrical based sensors with a well known inventor from West Orange, New Jersey, Thomas Alva Edison.

The Kelly legacy of innovation goes back generations and we are grateful to be a product of their creativity and ingenuity. We aspire to honor the family tradition that began over 57 years ago, in a family garage, and strive to continue their contributions to the advancement of aerospace, semiconductor, medical, oil and gas research, development and discovery.
